Lincoln in Illinois: The River Man

On March 18, "Lincoln in Illinois: The River Man" will be presented by Don Chamberlain at the Decatur Public Library at 2 pm.

Abraham Lincoln was connected to events involving rivers and creeks all his life. From a near-death experience as a child, working on the Ohio River, freezing his feet crossing the Sangamon River, journeying to New Orleans twice by flat boat, opposing the steamboat industry as a lawyer for a railroad, and more, these episodes shaped him in various ways. This program emphasizes how rivers and creeks played important roles in the Lincoln's life from his boyhood days to his adulthood.

The event is cosponsored by the Friends of Lincoln Trail Homestead State Park and Memorial, and the Macon County Conservation District.
